Hyundai, Kia's Singapore sales in H1 double on-year backed by advanced mobility plant
SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Yonhap) -- Vehicle sales of Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. in Singapore have more than doubled in the first half of 2024 from a year ago following the establishment of their new cutting-edge mobility plant last year, the companies said Sunday.
New car registrations for Hyundai and Kia vehicles in Singapore combined during the January-June period totaled 1,557 units, up 106 percent compared to the same period a year ago, the companies said, citing data from the Singapore Land Transport Authority.
Hyundai Motor's registrations totaled 941 units, nearly tripling from 333 units last year, while those for Kia came to 616 units.
Singapore has announced a plan to transition all vehicles to eco-friendly options, such as electric, hydrogen fuel cell and hybrid types, by 2040. The government also plans to replace half of its 6,000 diesel-powered public buses with electric buses by 2030.
The South Korean automotive giants in July of last year opened the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), located in Jurong Innovation District, an advanced manufacturing industrial complex in the western part of Singapore.
Representatives of the companies cited the establishment of the HMGICS in their improved sales during the cited period.
The companies said they plan to establish their market presence in Singapore by promoting electric vehicles and other eco-friendly models while building charging infrastructure with over 10 local charging service providers.
