New U.S. squadron begins 9-month rotational mission in S. Korea
SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. reconnaissance squadron from Washington began a nine-month rotational defense mission as part of a combat aviation brigade in South Korea last week, the U.S. military here said Tuesday.
The 4-6th Heavy Attack Reconnaissance Squadron of the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade from Joint Base Lewis-McChord replaced the 1-25th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, Task Force Arctic Sabers, at a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, 70 kilometers south of Seoul, last Friday.
The new squadron is no stranger to South Korea. It was the first squadron assigned to the nine-month rotational aviation mission here in 2013.
Along with the rotational troop change, the aviation brigade here has also upgraded its Apache helicopters, according to a U.S. military official.
