Budget carrier Jin Air under probe for emergency landing in Japan

SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- A Jin Air flight made an emergency landing in Japan with no injuries, said Jin Air Co., the budget unit of Korean Air Lines Co., on Monday.

The pilot of the Boeing 737-800 realized there was a hydraulic system malfunction about 9:30 a.m., a failure that kept its landing gear from being lowered, a company official said.

The pilot made an emergency call to the control tower in Kansai International Airport in Osaka as he manually lowered the gear for the landing, she said. She asked not to be identified, citing policy.

The plane carrying 165 passengers and six crew members on a flight from South Korea's Incheon to Osaka landed safely at the airport at 9:49 a.m., the official said, adding that it caused no damage to the airplane or airport facilities.

Lim Gyeong-tack, deputy director handling the issue at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said an investigation is under way into maintenance records and the maintenance crew to try and find the cause of the problem.
