S. Korea qualifies for int'l women's golf competition
SEOUL, April 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has qualified for an upcoming international women's golf competition with plenty of room to spare.
South Korea was ranked No. 1 among eight qualified countries for the UL International Crown, which will take place at the Merit Club outside Chicago on July 21-24. It will be the second edition of the match play event, which was first contested in 2014.
The eight countries were finalized based on the world ranking positions of their four best players as of Monday. The cumulative team score was determined by the four players' rankings -- the lower the tally the better.
South Korea is currently in first place with 21 points -- with No. 2 Park In-bee, No. 5 Kim Sei-young, No. 6 Jang Ha-na and No. 8 Chun In-gee.
The United States is next with 39 points, followed by Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, England, China and Australia.
The inaugural champion Spain failed to qualify this time.
The final seeds and the field will be set based on the world rankings after the KPMG Women's PGA Championship on June 12. The countries will be the divided into two pools.
South Korea finished third at the inaugural event in 2014.
