Taihan Cable & Solution Co., a South Korean manufacturer of electric wires and stainless steel products for electricity, announced Thursday that its South African subsidiary, Malesela Taihan Electric Cable (M-TEC), held a completion ceremony for the expansion of its power cable factory.
M-TEC expanded its production facilities and introduced a Catenary Continuous Vulcanization (CCV) line, an advanced insulation system, to meet the growing demand for medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) cables, which account for more than 90 percent of South Africa’s underground power cable market.
The investment will more than double M-TEC’s MV/LV cable production capacity compared with current levels, while also enhancing its quality and price competitiveness.
The completion ceremony was attended by Lester Bouah, head of the Energy One Stop Shop (EOSS) at South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC); Yang Dong-han, Korean Ambassador to South Africa; Kim Dae-heon, president of planning at Hoban Group; Kim Joon-seok, vice president at Taihan Cable & Solution; and Shin Young-soo, head of M-TEC.
“We expect that M-TEC’s investment – following its successful execution of multiple local projects – will further accelerate the modernization of South Africa’s power grid,” Bouah said.
A Taihan official added that “M-TEC will actively respond to rising local demand while broadening its exports across Africa through this investment.”
“We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness as a comprehensive cable manufacturer and play a key role in stabilizing South Africa’s power network,” the official said.
