The Seoul Metropolitan Government will start running Hangang (Han River) Bus, a ferry set to ply Seoul’s main river, from Thursday, the city government said on Sunday.
The service will connect seven piers across the city: Magok (Gangseo District), Mangwon (Mapo), Yeouido (Yeongdeungpo), Apgujeong (Gangnam), Oksu (Seongdong), Ttukseom (Gwangjin), and Jamsil (Songpa).
“For citizens looking to relax on their commute while enjoying the night view, or for tourists wanting to take in Seoul’s charms at a glance, the Hangang Bus will be a highly attractive mode of transport,” a city official noted.
The ferry service aims to serve as a cultural space within the city to become more than a mere means of transport. Each of the seven piers is being developed into a hotspot with its own character, offering visitors opportunities to build unique memories.
Ttukseom Pier, in particular, is being highlighted as a real-life backdrop for Netflix’s hit film “KPop Demon Hunters (KDH).” Its fourth-floor rooftop is considered one of the best places to view Seoul after sunset, including Cheongdam Bridge - featured in the movie’s battle scenes - alongside COEX and the city’s towering skyline.
Ttukseom Hangang Park, where the pier is located, has already become a renowned “nightscape spot.” Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon joined crowds of residents and foreign tourists there on September 7th, 2025, to watch the “2025 Drone Light Show,” which was themed around KDH.
An overseas visitor remarked, “This is going to be an incredible tourist attraction.”
At Yeouido Pier, commuters can enjoy a cocktail after work. Its Starbucks branch stands out from most other locations in Seoul by serving alcoholic beverages such as cocktails and lager beer. For its part, Apgujeong Pier is also expected to become a scenic hotspot. From the café set to open on the third floor in mid-September, visitors will be able to gaze out at the night view around Hannam Bridge with Namsan Tower - one of Seoul’s most iconic landmarks - clearly visible in the distance.
“Even before official operations begin, Hangang Bus piers have already established themselves as rest areas for citizens and tourists alike,” Park Jin-young, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Future Hangang headquarters, said. “We will continue to prioritize safety and do our utmost to meet all of our passengers’ expectations.”
